School of Modernities
The FONDATION GIACOMETTI is starting the SCHOOL OF MODERNITIES :
A research program which aims to contribute to the rewriting of Art History by new original research dedicated to the modern period.
A series of lectures will offer a new vision of Art History contributing to the rewriting of the history of modernity. High level Art historians and curators will present original research, shedding a new light on a shifting period of Art History through the original study of an artist's work or movement. These lectures will be filmed and viewable on the recently redesigned website of the Fondation Giacometti.
In novembre 2016 Okwui Enwezor, Director of the Haus der Kunst in Munich, will give an inaugural lecture in the frame of the exhibition Postwar: Art Between the Pacific and the Atlantic, 1945-1965.
A scholarship will be awarded annually to support significant contributions in the field of Art History. The first one has just been awarded in collaboration with the Alberto Giacometti-Stiftung in Zurich to Casimiro Di Crescenzo in order to undertake research on Giacometti's correspondence with his family from the joint archives of the Fondation Giacometti in Paris, the Sik-Isea and the Alberto Giacometti-Stiftung in Zurich.
COLLECTION OF ESSAYS
The Fondation Giacometti will launch a collection of short essays by young researchers enabling a quicker publication of the latest original research in Art History, based on the analysis of archives. A call for proposals will be soon announced on the website of the Fondation.
SUPPORT FOR PUBLICATIONS
The Fondation helps and supports publishing research based on works by Alberto and Diego Giacometti. A first thesis on Alberto Giacometti has just been published with its support: Dr Benjamin Delmotte. Le visible et l’intouchable. La vision et son épreuve phénoménologique dans l’œuvre d’Alberto Giacometti, éditions l’Age d’homme, Lausanne, 2016.
