The Foundation received the bequest from Annette Giacometti. Her wish was to create a private museum dedicated to the protection of her husband's work. As a private Institution with Public service, her goal is to protect, promote, and enhance the renown of the work of Alberto Giacometti.
Any activity aimed at protecting Giacometti’s work and enhancing its reputation falls under the Foundation’s purview.
The Foundation means of action include:
- Presenting the works of Alberto Giacometti to the public, both in France and abroad, as well as the works of other artists who are, or will become, part of the Foundation’s collection. Works from her collection are subject to short or long term loans to museums. The Foundation participates in public cultural events such as exhibitions and conferences. She is implied in all the publications and makes images available for publication or reproduction in any form.
- Preserving and maintaining Alberto and Annette Giacometti’s archives, which are part of the Foundation’s collection;
- Establishing a catalogue of the works;
- Protecting the work in France and abroad. In this purpose, she monitorates all relevant publications, exhibitions or sales She seizes and confiscates all counterfeit works and prosecutes their authors. She grants authorizations to reproduce, publish or exhibit any works of Alberto Giacometti;
- Awarding prizes and scholarships;
