Alberto Giacometti and the Etruscan

The curse of l’Ombra della Sera haunts Giacometti.

Some Exhibitions give rise, one more time, to the so-called analogy between the artist’s elongated sculptures and the Etruscan Figurine named l’Ombra della Sera. In order to denounce this superficial and deceptive interpretation, historically inaccurate, we suggest the reading of two texts:

Gillo Dorfles, Le lunghe ombre della cultura etrusca dated from September the 18th 1999 (The Italian version of the article is available for consultation on the website of the "Corriere della sera", under this link).

Véronique Wiesinger, La maledizione dell'Ombra della sera, in cat. Alberto Giacometti e l'Ombra della sera, Villa Manzoni, Lecco, 2011, p. 26-29 (The article is available for consultation under this link).

L'Ombra della sera and Giacometti, a "superficial and arbitrary" association, a syntheses with harmful consequences (and surprising). The proof : reproductions of the Ombra on sale on EBay as original sculptures by Giacometti !
