Fondation Giacometti

Staying in Stampa (Canton of Grisons, Switzerland) where he had come for a long visit to his aging mother, Alberto Giacometti made a series of drawings of his wife Annette on 14 March 1963, laying on the bed of their room, reading. These drawings encompass a more or less broad vision of the scene, the artist also changing position in the room. This drawing concentrates on the face of Annette, who is looking the artist straight in the eyes. In the foreground, one sees the horizontal line of the table on which Giacometti had settled to draw, and part of the back of a chair.
