Fondation Giacometti - Creative workshops for adults

Throughout the year, the Institut Giacometti offers creative workshops for adults in sculpture and drawing, immersing participants in the world of Alberto Giacometti.

The workshops are open to everyone. No advanced technical skills are required to take part.

SCULPTURE WORKSHOPS

“Copying to Create” in Sculpture
Clay modelling with artist and practitioner Kevin Ducrot

The “Copying to Create” sculpture workshops for adults invite you to discover the role of copying in artistic creation, particularly in Alberto Giacometti’s work. Far from being mere imitation, copying allows artists to observe and analyse in depth the elements that make up a work of art.

Alongside Kevin Ducrot, artist and practitioner, discover yellow, red and white raw clay and learn to explore its distinctive qualities and subtleties. You will experiment with different modelling techniques and tools, then create a freestanding, three-dimensional sculpture using facsimiles of Alberto Giacometti’s works, in the form of images and sculptures.

Admission to the exhibition is included for the duration of the workshop, giving you the opportunity to encounter original works by Alberto Giacometti and other artists face to face.

You will take your creation home with you.

5 workshops per year / Saturday and Sunday, 2 pm–5 pm
At the Institut Giacometti, 5–9 rue Victor Schoelcher, Paris 14th arrondissement

DRAWING WORKSHOPS
With artist Maryline Genest and a live model

The Institut Giacometti offers an unexpected approach to artistic creation: an encounter between the body of a live model, the works on display and your own experience.

Maryline Genest, a painter trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, invites professional live models to pose fully clothed at the heart of the exhibitions. Their bodies enter into dialogue with the artworks and the themes explored in the exhibition.

Surrounded by the works at the Institut Giacometti and working in the Giacometti Lab, a space dedicated to artistic creation, you will explore a range of drawing practices and techniques.

Inspired by Alberto Giacometti’s works and artistic investigations, the workshop explores how light, shadow, framing and contrast influence the perception of bodies and volumes. Drawing, painting, ink, collage and mixed media are explored throughout the sessions.

Studio practice alternates between observation, discussion and time for creative work. Participants are encouraged to experiment, make mistakes and start again.

Admission to the exhibition is included for the duration of the workshop, allowing you to encounter original works by Giacometti and other artists face to face.

You will take your creation home with you.

4 workshops per year / Saturday and Sunday, 10 am–1 pm and 2 pm–5 pm
At the Institut Giacometti, 5–9 rue Victor Schoelcher, Paris 14th arrondissement

1. THE DISPLACED BODY

Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November 2026, 10 am–1 pm and 2 pm–5 pm
With painter Maryline Genest and model Lili Mamath

This workshop explores the body and its transformations through drawing and other artistic techniques. You will experiment with different ways of representing and transforming the human figure: repeating it, fragmenting it, erasing it, layering it or reconstructing it from memory.

On Saturday, working with live model Lili Mamath, you will draw at the heart of the exhibition, engaging with the artworks and the surrounding space. On Sunday, without a model, the previous day’s experiments will become the starting point for new creations using drawing, painting, ink, collage and mixed media.

A weekend to observe, experiment and invent new ways of representing the body.

2. CHANGING PERSPECTIVE

Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March 2027, 10 am–1 pm and 2 pm–5 pm
With painter Maryline Genest and model Cosetta Graffione

This workshop invites you to explore the relationships between the body, sculpture, photography and drawing.

Over two days, you will experiment with different viewpoints on the body and sculpture. Moving around, changing your distance, adjusting the framing or altering the scale can transform both what you see and the way you draw it.

On Saturday, the work will focus on the live model and the artworks presented in the exhibition. You will explore multiple viewpoints and framing techniques to experiment with different ways of representing the body. On Sunday, the drawings produced the previous day will become the starting point for further artistic exploration without a model. Fragments, layering, changes of scale and framing will allow you to compose new images.

A weekend to see things differently, experiment and develop your own way of representing the world.

3. APPEAR / DISAPPEAR

Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May 2027, 10 am–1 pm and 2 pm–5 pm
With painter Maryline Genest and model Lara Bouvet

This workshop explores how light, shadow, framing and contrast affect the perception of bodies and volumes. Over two days, you will experiment with different ways of making a form appear or disappear. Shadows, masses, fragments, erasures and layers become tools for gradually transforming an image.

On Saturday, with a live model present in the exhibition, the focus will be on the perception of the body, its volumes and its relationship with the artworks and the surrounding space. On Sunday, without a model, the drawings produced the previous day will become the starting point for new artistic investigations. Erasing, covering, revealing and working in layers will help new forms emerge, allowing the traces left behind to gradually take the place of representation.

A weekend to explore the boundaries between presence and absence, and discover new ways of making the body emerge within an image.
