Alberto Giacometti. Sculpting the void

Marseille, France
Off site

The Musée Cantini, in co-organisation with the Fondation Giacometti, is presenting for the first time in Marseille an exhibition dedicated to the work of Alberto Giacometti, entitled Alberto Giacometti. Sculpting the Void.

Described by Jean-Paul Sartre as an artist of the “Void,” Giacometti created forms, figures and characters—often solitary—that are inseparable from the space surrounding them. In both his sculptural and painted work, the void emerges as a true creative tool.

Featuring a remarkable selection of sculptures (plasters and bronzes), paintings, drawings and prints, the exhibition explores the notion of the void—a central concern in Giacometti’s practice—through the various periods of his career.

The exhibition is co-organised by the City of Marseille – Musées de Marseille and the Fondation Giacometti.
