Performance: « Scream and Bezabaan »

By Violaine Lochu
Paris, France
At the Institut Giacometti

The figure of the scream is at the center of Giacometti and Bhabha's work. During an interview, she states: "my sculptures are like animals in the way that they can't talk : in Urdu there is a word "Bezabaan", which means without language. For me the word "Bezabaan" refers to the absence of language and the inability to communicate with people who do not speak your language, at the same time."

In the light of the work of the two artists, Violaine Lochu revisits the motif of scream, that can also be find in her own art. This multisensory performance will explore its auditory, visual, and tactile aspects: an expression on the edge of humanity, vestiges of a pre-language or vertigos of a post language.
Manipulating soil — central material in the practice of the two artists exhibited — Violaine Lochu becomes a living sculpture, a mutant in perpetual metamorphosis, seeming to emerge from another world as much archaic as post-apocalyptic.
