Derain, Balthus, Giacometti. Une amitié artistique.

Fondation Giacometti - Derain, Balthus, Giacometti. Une amitié artistique.

Exhibition designed by the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris Musées and co-organised with the MAPFRE Foundation, which includes a selection of one hundred paintings, graphic works and sculptures by the three artists. The exhibition curated by Jacqueline Munck reviews the most important moments of the artistic friendship between Derain, Balthaus and Giacometti.

In an artistic context in which the abstract movements and surrealism predominated, an artistic alliance emerged between the three painters to pursue the painting of the past and the most traditional codes of this art.

This  collection of works, mainly from the 1920s to the 1960s, reviews the crucial moments of the artistic friendship of these three painters.  In them,  there is a clear effort  to hold on to the most basic rules of the canvas discipline: style, light and shadows, the formal clarity of drawing and geometry.
