« Alberto Giacometti and lsaku Yanaihara, the artist and his model», online lecture (in French) presented by Emilie Bouvard, head of collections.

In October 1955, Giacometti gets to know a young Japanese philosophy professor, Isaku Yanaihara (1918-1989), who is particularly interested in existentialism. A profound understanding bridges the two men in the following months, so much so that Giacometti will suggest that he sit for him in October 1956. He will come back in the summers of 1957, 1959, 1960 and 1961. Of these sittings, and others from memory, are left 21 paintings, two busts and a few drawings. This experience, extraordinary and striking, is recounted in several books by Yanaihara, that are a precious source for the knowledge of the particular link that Giacometti entertains with his models.

L'École des modernités

« Situating Gutai in Global Art History », "Let's make mischief!" Online lecture by l'École des Modernités presented by Ming Tiampo

Starting from the Gutai group, this conference interrogates the defintion of modernism beyong the North-Atlantic. It seeks to question the way Gutai was situated in the field of global modernism, and reflect upon the reasons of its success these past few years.
