Description

In the years 1915-1920, Alberto Giacometti made numerous watercolours on a thick drawing paper, mostly landscapes he had before his eyes, in the Val Bregaglia where the family house was located, or around the town of Schiers, where he had classes at the college from 1915 until 1918. These works bear the mark of his father’s work, the impressionist painter Giovanni Giacometti, whose style in watercolour was similar to his son’s. The technique Alberto used in this watercolour is the same as in countless other works. Giacometti made a drawing with a pencil, in a few strokes, to do the outlines of surfaces that he then filled with numerous and modulated colours, following the pattern of his father’s watercolours.
