ALBERTO GIACOMETTI - ANDRÉ BRETON, surrealist friendships

at the Institut Giacometti
Paris, France
At the Institute

Giacometti spent five years with the Surrealist group (1930-1935), during which time he formed lasting friendships with Breton and other artists and intellectuals of the movement. The exhibition brings together several emblematic works from Giacometti's Surrealist period and those of his fellow artists: Hans Arp, Victor Brauner, Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, André Masson, Joan Miró, Meret Oppenheim, Pablo Picasso, Yves Tanguy, as well as documents relating to Claude Cahun, René Crevel, Lise Deharme, Paul Eluard, Georges Hugnet, Jacqueline Lamba and Tristan Tzara.
This exhibition sheds new light on the artistic, intellectual and friendly world around these two major figures of 20th century art.

A new exhibition presented at the Institut Giacometti, in collaboration with the Association Atelier André Breton and the Centre Pompidou, Musée national d'art moderne.

Curators: Serena Bucalo-Mussely, curator Fondation Giacometti

Jacqueline Lamba. Film by Fabrice Maze

First screening of the documentary film programme dedicated to surrealist artists and writers

Jacqueline Lamba crossed the 20th century rubbing shoulders with the greatest artists of the pictorial and literary avant-garde. Free, independent, rebellious and uncompromising, she never stopped fighting to devote herself to her art. After an elective meeting in 1934 with André Breton, described in the pages of the book L'Amour fou, Jacqueline became Breton's second wife the following year and the mother of Aube, the poet's only daughter, who collaborated until 1945 in the prolific activities of the Surrealist group.
