ALBERTO GIACOMETTI / PETRIT HALILAJ. WE BUILT A FANTASTIC PALACE AT NIGHT…
The exhibition "We built a fantastic palace at night" presented at the Institut Giacometti next spring, engages in a dialogue between the works of contemporary artist Petrit Halilaj and those of Alberto Giacometti. Marked by his childhood in war-torn Kosovo, Petrit Halilaj develops a practice where individual and collective stories intertwine to envisage spaces of freedom filled with playfulness and lightness. Like Giacometti at certain times, child-like drawing has nourished his work, opening up a dreamlike and even magical horizon to sculpture.

From a child’s drawing copied by Giacometti, Halilaj initiates a subtle and dreamlike dialogue, playing with transitions between drawing and sculpture, and unveiling novel aspects of his elder’s work. With nearly thirty works produced specifically for the exhibition, Halilaj explores in the childlike vocabulary of his "Abetare" a form of drawing in space, which has become a means of expression in its own right. The exhibition revisits the relationship of the two artists to childhood, dreams, idea associations, and their wonderment.
